Some of these islands are hard to reach, while some remain to be rural that developments within the island can be counted by the fingers. Nevertheless, Hong Kong is Hong Kong. It would not one of the most visited cities if there won’t be any tourist spot….
Che Kung Miu or Che Kung Temple are temples for the late general during Southern Song Dynasty in ancient China. One temple is found at Tai Wai, New Territories while the other at banks of Ho Chung River.
Cheung Chau is a small island 10 km southwest of Hong Kong Island. The name is derived from Cantonese word for long island since the island was geographically elongated. Interesting locations are Pak Tai Temple, one of oldest temples in Hong Kong and an alleged hiding place of a famous pirate among others.
Hong Kong Heritage Museum is a museum of history, art and culture in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. Six permanent galleries and six thematic temporary galleries are features of the museum.
Hong Kong Railway Museum is a railway museum in Tai Po, Hong Kong. It is located at the former site of Old Tai Po Market Railway Station which was built in 1913. Found inside is an exhibit of train tickets and train models.
Hong Kong Wetland Park is a conservation, education and tourism facility in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long. It is a 10,000 square meter land with galleries, theatre, souvenir shop and indoor play area. Another feature is 60 hectare Wetland Reserve.
Ping Shan is located west of Yuen Long Town and Shui Pin Wai. Found are declared monuments and graded buildings such as Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda.
Ting Kau Bridge is a 1,177 meter long cable-styled bridge in Hong Kong that connects Tsing Yi Island and Tuen Mun Road. It is the world’s first major 4-span cable-span bridge.
Tsing Ma Bridge that spans from Lantau Island and Kowloon. It is the world’s sixth-longest span suspension bridge. Measuring 1,377 meters in length and 206 meters in height, it is the largest of all bridges in the world carrying traffic. All tourists who arrives at Hong Kong International Airport and heads to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island passes through this bridge.
Tai Lam Tunnel is a dual 3-lane tunnel in Hong Kong. It connects northwest part of New Territories and mainland China with Kowloon Peninsula.
Tsing Yi Island is located northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. Through land reclamation, this island has extended it’s size, in fact three areas in northeast of the island has been reclaimed for new towns. Divided into four quarters, the island’s northeast area is residential, southeast is container port, southwest is heavy industry and northwest is a recreation trail. Access to the island is achieved through eight bridges that link Tsing Yi to Kowloon, Tseun Wan, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, Lai King Station, Stonecutter’s Island and Sha Tin.
