Hong Kong and Macau are two special administrative region (SAR) of People’s Republic of China. Basically it means both top tourist destinations are under the government of P.R. China but the two regions has its own Basic Law. It means both Hong Kong and Macau has a separate political system, capitalist economy and enjoy autonomy except for foreign policy and defense.
It benefits a tourist because one need not to have a visa to either places and could easily travel to these tourist spots for up to 90 days of stay. And so, visitors of Hong Kong often times have in their itinerary to set foot on Macau as well. This is possible, even in just a single day.
