I typed top ten lists for paris on a blank tab, clicked on google search and got 113,000,000 matches.I almost got confused on identifying the real top ten tourist destinations for the city of lights, when suddenly I thought of conducting quick personal research. I listed the top ten famous landmarks from various websites and tallied for commonly mentioned. And these are listed below:

Basilique du Sacré-Coeur – Formally known as Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Paris, this Roman Catholic Church is commonly called as Sacré-Cœur Basilica. The Romano-Byzantine architecture and the use of travertine stones to ensure the white color appearance of the basilica is one of the few reasons why this is a top tourist destination. Furthermore, this minor basilica is built on Montmartre, the highest point of the city.

Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees – The former is a monument built to honor those who fought for France during the Napolenic Wars. Names of all generals during the war are found inside and on top of the arc while underneath is the tomb of an unknown soldier that represents all the soldiers who fought during the mentioned war. It stands 50 m in height, 45 m wide and 22 m deep and located at center of Place Charles de Gaulle. The Avenue des Champs-Elysees, meanwhile is one of the most famous streets in the world because rent goes as high as €1.1 million or US $ 1.5 million. Another reason is the presence of upscale shopping where luxury and popular brands are located in this 2 kilometer piece of land.

Orsay Museum- The building was originally a railway station. French art from 1845 to 1915 are found in this museum. But the masterpieces from painters like Monet and Van Gogh made this museum the world’s largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist art.

Seine – A river that cuts through the Paris, this body of water is famous for being a background for photographs and paintings. Excursion boats and commercial riverboats are paid to tour the river inside and outside the city, respectively. Thirty seven bridges exist within the city limits.

Montmarte – A 130 meter high hill situated at the north of the city, basically known for the place where Basilica of the Sacré Cœur is built upon. Another church is believed to be venue where the Jesuit order of priests was founded. Famous artists like Monet, Picasso and Van Gogh had studios or have worked around the community of this highest point of Paris.

Since not all top destinations above are close towards each other, it is not a necessity visit all places in one day. Any individual or group of tourist/s can make the ten locations as either a starting point or the end point of his/her/their itinerary. Who knows, another list can be made from doing so.
